Just Aircraft surpasses 300 orders

By General Aviation News Staff · April 4, 2013 ·

WALHALLA, S.C. — Just Aircraft has received its 300th kit order and it’s for a Highlander SuperStol.

The order was placed by Ken Ryan of Anchorage, Alaska ,who reports he was impressed with the redesigned wing with new wing slats, Fowler flaps and an improved landing gear that accommodates tundra tires, company officials said. An experienced aircraft builder, Ken said he likes the folding wings, and is considering the possibility of floats and skis.

Prior to his purchase, he said he followed the progress of Just Aircraft for about five years. He stated that “the slats deploy on the basis of angle of attack, giving the aircraft STOL performance like the Helio Courier. When they came out with that on a new wing and new gear, I just had to have it.”

JustAircraft2 2With its slatted wing, the Highlander will cruise at 110 mph, land at 32 mph and take off or rollout in 150 feet. The improved landing gear, which features long strut air shocks, can handle aggressive landings at off airport sites. The wing slats, when combined with the large Fowler flaps, allow the aircraft to be flown at extremely high angles of attack permitting it to “drop” into small or inclined clearings, company officials said. All existing Highlanders can be retrofitted with the new folding SuperStol wing. The Highlander SuperStol can be configured as a taildragger or nosewheel aircraft.
