Quilt challenge to benefit Curtiss museum

By General Aviation News Staff · September 23, 2013 ·

HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. — Local quilters will create finished quilts in just six hours at the Iron Quilter Challenge at the Glenn Curtiss Museum on Saturday, Oct. 5. The finished works of art will be sold through a silent auction on Sunday, Nov. 4. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the museum.

At the start of the challenge, each participating quilter will be given a packet of fabrics and may also incorporate fabrics, threads and embellishments from her personal collection in the finished piece. By 4 p.m., each quilter must design and complete a three-layer piece that is quilted and bound. Museum visitors will be able to observe the process of quilt design and creation throughout the day.

The Iron Quilter Challenge is being held in conjunction with the Quilt Exhibit, which is on display through Nov. 4.
