I was curious to know how this B29 got it’s name, “FiFi”. My father flew in a B17 A/C 42-229699 also named the “FIFI” . He was station at Rougham Airfield in 1943. My father flew five missions in the “FIFI” before being grounded due to extensive damage. I was surprised to see another plane with the same name, even with the “tilted” lettering as was on my father’s plane.

Pardon my ignorance: are the engine’s propellers rotating in the same direction ?

I believe the illusion you are seeing is rolling shutter or something similar. All of the props are not rotating in the same direction. See link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_shutter

Nearly flew in one of these in Farmingdale last year for Memorial day… Flew the B-25 instead … super cool!

About the shutter effect, I thought stupidly that on counter rotating propellers one could be able to see it …

Can we have a reposting without the music so we can appreciate those engines? 🙂
