A very long time ago I landed a Cessna 152 on Wisconsin State Hwy 16 so it could be in an open house for a local hardware store. We asked numerous gov’t agencies for permission to do this and no one would give permission. So just at the crack of dawn I landed without incident, and the airplane spent the weekend at the hardware store. When I went to leave about 5 a m Monday a local cop was parked next to the airplane shooting radar. When I told him I wanted to leave he went ballistic and put me in the back seat of his cop car while he called the FAA and NTSB. We argued for a couple of days and finally took the wings off, trailered the airplane to a nearby private strip, reassembled it, and flew it back home.
To make a very long story short, there are NO Federal Regulations against landing on a highway. There were NO State of Wisconsin regulations against landing on a state hwy. Turns out the only regulation I violated was moving a vehicle wider than 8 ft without a permit. The FAA wanted to know all about it. A local inspector told me it was not a good idea but not illegal.
Hello, hey what about the regulation about landing in the US ? can you guys literally land anywhere you want ?
