Tip: Help a rusty pilot start ‘Flying Again’

By Ben Sclair · February 2, 2016 ·

Chances are high you know a rusty pilot. After all, the population of that particular pilot class hovers around 500,000. But, it’s not enough to simply say, “Go get current.”

There’s most likely a backstory to why they stopped. Fortunately, they share the “why” with thousands of others. After all, there are only so many reasons they became rusty in the first place. Family, work, health, and money are the usual suspects. So how can we re-re-engage them?

Flying Again, Jason SchappertA new documentary from MzeroA.com might be just the answer for some. Flying Again is a beautifully shot 83-minute video that tags along with pilots who dropped out of flying. One took a new job, another experienced a cash crunch, one got spooked by an accident and one who really got into flying because of a sick child and later dropped out.

There’s something for nearly any rusty pilot to relate to. And that’s the key. Too many worry their “situation” is unique and struggle to regain the nerve to re-engage. Buy them a copy of Flying Again, watch it with them, and then go flying.

Flying Again is available from MzeroA.com for $29.97.

It is interesting how everyone seems to think that their situation is unique. A friend of mine has this mindset and refuses to try flying again. This is really a shame because flying made him so happy and he worked so hard to become a pilot. I will certainly look into this documentary, but do you have any other tips for how I can help him? Thank you!
