Northland Community & Technical College, which has campuses in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Thief River Falls, Minnesota invites students in grades 7-12, along with their teachers and families, to a day of career exploration and discovery.
The free event includes workshops, tours, and hands-on experiences designed to introduce students to the wide range of programs and careers available in the aerospace industry, according to college officials.
‘Experience Northland Aerospace’ is a joint venture put on by Northland and the National Center for Autonomous Technologies (NCAT) to encourage interest in aerospace careers and show off the many high-tech programs Northland offers, officials continued.
“Oftentimes, the path from high school to college or a career can seem unclear or altogether confusing,” said Aaron Sykes, NCAT STEAM Outreach Coordinator. “How can a middle or high school student know what their future career will look like if they are unsure what their options are? And how can we as educators inspire passion in these students and help them discover a fitting career? These are questions we hope Experience Northland Aerospace will answer.”
A community open house is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., while the main event is geared specifically for middle and high school students.
Student Event
Registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m. on Feb. 24, at the Northland Aerospace center, a 86,000-square-foot facility with a hangar that houses more than 20 different types of airplanes, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles next to the Thief River Falls Regional Airport (KTVF).
Starting at 9 a.m., students can participate in a variety of 50-minute hands-on activities, wrapping up at 3 p.m.
Open House
The community is also invited to learn about Northland’s aerospace programs beginning at 4 p.m.
“The afternoon open house will have something for everyone, including information about registering for classes, and give anyone with an interest in aerospace the opportunity to get a close up look at the aircraft and technology Northland students get to work on as they prepare for exciting careers in a booming industry,” college officials said.
