The deadline for nominations for the 2026 General Aviation Awards has been extended to Jan. 16, 2026.
The extension was necessary because of the government shutdown, according to officials, who note the extra time will give FAASTeam Program Managers the necessary time to process nominations.
The program, a cooperative effort between the GA industry and the FAA, recognizes individuals in the fields of flight instruction, aviation maintenance, and flight safety “for their professionalism and dedication to general aviation,” according to officials.
GAA officials encourage flight schools, aviation organizations, universities, Flight Standards District Offices (FSDO), and others to nominate fellow aviators or submit applications on their behalf. This year, GAA will publicly recognize every nominee, “acknowledging the vital contributions each person makes to their community’s health and safety,” officials said.
The selection process begins following the new Jan. 16 deadline at FSDOs, where winners are chosen at the district level. These winners then proceed to the national level, where a panel of judges composed of industry professionals and past winners select the final winners.
In addition to national recognition, winners present a live broadcast offering their knowledge and expertise, are awarded a trip to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, are given a commemorative plaque, as well as numerous gifts from industry sponsors.
