Free IA Training Course Launches

By General Aviation News Staff · January 23, 2026 · 1 Comment

SavvyAviation has launched SavvyCertified, a new IA training course developed to support Airframe and Powerplant mechanics with Inspection Authorization (A&P/IA).

The free, eight-hour, FAA-accepted online course satisfies the annual IA training requirement, according to company officials.

While targeted primarily to A&P/IAs, the training is open to anyone interested in general aviation maintenance practices.

“Too much maintenance training emphasizes rote compliance instead of real-world problem-solving,” said Mike Busch, founder of SavvyAviation. “This course is designed to help mechanics think critically, troubleshoot effectively, and apply proven maintenance principles grounded in data and experience.”

Course topics include FAA regulations applicable to IA maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), troubleshooting principles, minimally invasive cylinder repair techniques, borescope inspections, engine monitor data analysis, and real-world troubleshooting scenarios, according to company officials.

The course consists of eight video modules, each with a corresponding quiz. Mechanics who complete all modules will receive a completion certificate that may be submitted to the FAA to document the required eight hours of IA training.
