AOPA Board Elects New Chairman

By General Aviation News Staff · March 27, 2026 · Leave a Comment

Luke Wippler has been elected the new chairman of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

“Luke combines strong business acumen with a deep passion for aviation and represents the next generation of AOPA leadership,” said Outgoing Chair Jim Hauslein. “The board strongly believes he is the right leader to guide AOPA’s next chapter.”

Wippler, who joined the board in 2015, is a private pilot with multi-engine instrument and single-engine seaplane ratings, with experience across a wide range of aircraft. He owns a Cessna 182 Amphib and a Piper Super Cub.

Hauslein also announced that he and former Chair Bill Trimble will not seek reelection to the board at AOPA’s annual member meeting in May, and that the board is in the process of updating proposed changes to AOPA bylaws.

In a letter to members, Hauslein said that “the board is now in the advanced stages of recommending for member consideration several bylaw updates, including changes to the trustee nominating process, proxy requirements, board size, and the establishment of trustee qualifications and term limits,” and said more updates would be shared ahead of AOPA’s annual meeting at AOPA Headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, on May 12, 2026.
