Sporty’s has released its Limited Edition 2026 Cessna 172 Die-Cast Model, a 1:72 scale replica, inspired by a real aircraft with a remarkable story.
This year’s model honors a 1974 Cessna Skyhawk II named Gypsy, owned by the Hurtuk family. The aircraft was selected as the winner of Sporty’s nationwide “Shrink My Cessna” contest, which invited owners to submit photos and stories of their Skyhawks.
Gypsy stood out, not just for her distinctive appearance, but also for her legacy in general aviation. Over the years, she has introduced hundreds of young people to flight through EAA Young Eagles flights, has helped train numerous private pilots, and has become a familiar presence at airports across Florida, according to Sporty’s officials.
“Gypsy isn’t just an airplane — she’s part of a much bigger story,” said the Hurtuk family. “She represents travel, inspiration, and the journeys that aviation makes possible.”
The aircraft’s name carries special meaning. Inspired both by the name given to World War II-era B-17 bombers and by their own daughter, an avid traveler, the Hurtuks chose the name Gypsy to reflect a spirit of adventure and exploration.
The model features:
- Authentic Gypsy paint scheme with detailed printed graphics
- Realistic landing gear and detailed interior
- Clear cockpit windows
- Rotating propeller
- Display stand for customizable in-flight or parked configuration.
Price: $69.99.
