Pilots Needed to Test Enhanced NTSB Accident Database

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is asking pilots for their help in improving the agency’s enhanced version of CAROL — Case Analysis and Reporting Online — the agency’s public search platform for investigative and safety recommendations data.

The beta version has a clearer, faster, and more intuitive way for the public to search, filter, and review NTSB’s information across all modes of transportation, according to NTSB officials.

Go to My.NTSB.gov/Home, then sign in via your login.gov account to access new features, including:

  • Saving custom searches
  • Sharing direct links to saved searches
  • Accessing the API (Application Programming Interface) tool so the public can add NTSB data to their own websites or apps
  • Marking published searches for quick and easy access
  • Using a personalized myNTSB dashboard to quickly access these resources

Additionally, new searchable data fields enable more targeted research and analysis, according to agency officials. For example, you can now search NTSB “findings” — the agency’s official determinations about factors that contributed to an event — across all modes.

Throughout the beta test, users can still access the current version of CAROL to access investigative information, public dockets, and safety recommendations.

Based on the title of your article, is there a particular direct link for pilots to sign up? I signed in via login.gov, proceeded to the NTSB site and searched for pilots needed to comment on CAROL, I could not find anything related to your storyline where we could make comment on the enhanced version of using CAROL.

Go to https://my.ntsb.gov/home, then you’ll see the place to sign in with your login.gov ID.

Thanks much. I did. It opened to the search categories, etc. I searched for a specific fatal aircraft accident to the day it happened within a few days, put as much as I knew about those involved, including the aircraft and got “no results” on several tries. I probably had more info than most, because it was a plane that I had flown regularly and I knew the owner and the instructor who perished. Oh, well.

I would use the link in the banner along the top to report any feedback. Also try using less filters, see if it comes up that way. If it is too new it may just not be published yet.
