Tim McClung has retired as Iowa DOT Aviation Director after a career in aviation spanning over three decades.
“I came to the Iowa DOT with a passion for aviation, and I’ve been fortunate to work with a small but dedicated team that shares that same commitment,” he said. “Together, we’ve advanced aviation in Iowa with the support and trust of DOT leadership, aviation stakeholders, and partners like the FAA.”
McClung was also active in the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO), serving as the NASAO Central Region Director and providing his expertise to fellow aviation directors, according to NASAO officials.
“As one of the smaller state aviation offices, Iowa has benefitted greatly from being part of NASAO,” McClung said. “The organization has given us a strong collective voice on national aviation policy and funding, and under Greg Pecoraro’s leadership, NASAO continues to do exceptional work. Participation in committees, webinars, and regional groups has helped us not only have a voice, but to learn from other states and better understand Iowa’s place in the national aviation landscape.”
McClung’s final day on the job was June 19, 2026. Shane Wright was named the new aviation director in May 2026.
