The pilot was on the first familiarization flight in his newly acquired Quicksilver GT-400.
His previous experience was in a slower model of the airplane, he told investigators.
He reported that the taxi and takeoff from the airport in Mansfield, Missouri, were normal, but during the climb, the airplane stalled and broke hard to the right.
He could not recover from the stall and the airplane hit the ground, resulting in substantial damage to the empennage, wings, and the front of the fuselage. The pilot was seriously injured in the crash.
Probable Cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control after takeoff, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.
