Fly Away Today has launched NiteOcean, a platform designed to bring essential aviation information, pilot tools, and flight records together in one mobile experience.
Available on iOS and Android, NiteOcean was created for pilots, student pilots, and aviation enthusiasts. It features pilot briefings, METAR and TAF aviation weather, NOTAM awareness, METAR widgets, live aviation information, digital pilot logbook tools, pilot currency tracking, aircraft information, and other features, the developers noted.
“At the heart of the platform is the idea that aviation does not begin when an aircraft leaves the runway and end when it lands,” they said. “Preparation, weather awareness, flight records, learning, and staying connected to aviation are all part of the journey.”
While based in the UK, NiteOcean could also be useful to pilots in the United States, according to the developers.
“Many of its core features — such as METAR and TAF weather, airport information, flight briefing tools, digital logbook functionality, pilot currency tracking, aircraft information and Ask Captain — are designed for an international aviation audience rather than solely for UK pilots,” they said. “We’re continuing to expand and localize the platform, and feedback from U.S. pilots will be particularly valuable in helping us develop stronger region-specific coverage and functionality.”
The next stage of NiteOcean is already in development: A dedicated aviation community built directly into the platform.
The community is being designed to give users their own aviation-focused space to create profiles, share posts and aviation experiences, discover other members, build networks, and communicate.
“We didn’t want NiteOcean to be an app that does only one thing,” said co-founder Alis Aknai. “Aviation is much bigger than tracking an aircraft or checking the weather. Pilots prepare, fly, record their journeys, learn, and connect with other people who share the same passion. Our vision is to bring more of that experience together in one place.”
NiteOcean is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. A variety of subscriptions are offered.
