Wyoming Pilots Organize Regional Poker Run Fundraiser

By General Aviation News Staff · October 29, 2026 · Leave a Comment

The Sheridan Pilots Association will host its third annual Ace Around The Bighorns Poker Run on Nov. 14, 2026, gathering general aviation pilots across northern Wyoming and southern Montana for a multi-leg navigation fundraiser.

Flight operations will run from 0800 to 1300, opening with a mandatory 0800 pilot briefing at the Sheridan Pilots 307 (SP307) gray hangar at Sheridan County Airport (KSHR). Association officials noted that color copies of route maps, scoresheets, and kneeboard packets will be distributed to all participating crews during the morning briefing.

The cross-country route directs pilots across five regional airfields:

  1. Sheridan, Wyoming (KSHR): Departure point.
  2. Fort Smith, Montana (5U7): Dealer Randon Kruse, SPA President, stationed at the west end of Runway 25 with a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza (N79MC).
  3. Greybull, Wyoming (KGEY): Dealer Paul Thur, Airport Manager, stationed on the ramp.
  4. Worland, Wyoming (KWRL): Dealer Josh Hellyer, Hellyer Aviation FBO Owner.
  5. Buffalo, Wyoming (KBYG): Dealer Brian Granger, Airport Manager and Johnson County Aviation FBO Operator.
  6. Sheridan, Wyoming: Finish line and final cards dealt by Sheridan Pilots Association members at the SP307 hangar.

Hands follow five-card draw rules with no wild cards. Entry fees are $40 cash for the first hand and $20 for each additional hand, up to a four-hand maximum per participant. An automated teller machine (ATM) is available at KSHR.

Organizers noted that aviation enthusiasts who do not own or have access to an aircraft can contact the association directly to coordinate shared flight accommodations.

An awards presentation will take place at the SP307 hangar immediately following the conclusion of flight activities. For flight packets, kneeboard data, and advance registration, pilots can visit SheridanPilots307.org.
