In 2014, Vlad Prostakov traveled from Russia to SUN ‘n FUN, where he enjoyed his first ride in a seaplane, a 1969 LA-4 Lake Amphib. In June 2021, Vlad, now a CFI, will work on his seaplane rating, coming full circle from his first seaplane ride to certification.
Teens build Cub in a week at SUN ‘n FUN
The teen members of the Lakeland Aero Club spent the week of the 2021 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo building a Recruit Cub, a PA-18R Cub kit from Patriot Aircraft. The teens will fly the Cub to the 2021 EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.

“Usually, we sell about 900,000 tickets by the first day of SUN ‘n FUN. This year, we started with 1.2 million tickets sold and that’s not counting the tickets that rolled over from 2019,” he added.
The simple success of the Old Farts Flying Club
The Old Farts Flying Club is very informal and simple: There are no dues, initiation, requirements, or vetting. Just an email list informing pilots where the next gathering will be. Events range from meeting for the mythical $100 hamburger to hangar flying to tours of the Piper factory and NOAA hangar at KLAL.
