A private jet once owned by Elvis Presley was recently auctioned off for $500,000. That’s after the 1962 Lockheed JetStar L-1329 — which doesn’t have an engine or avionics — sat on a tarmac in New Mexico for 30 years. In this video from Forbes magazine, you can see inside the jet, which features red velvet seats and red shag carpet.

One story towers above all the rest at Oshkosh
The control tower at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is Crazy Town to normal mortals, yet it is comprehensible and functional to a select crew of FAA controllers who keep the planes coming in with an assured meter and calm comms.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 a record-breaking show
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 is over, and as the last prop wash wafts across the matted acres of now-empty grass parking spaces at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Wisconsin, early figures show that 650,000 visitors descended upon the Experimental Aircraft Association grounds during the week of July 25-31.
Collaboration saves 45S
After years of neglect, volunteers from the Recreational Aviation Foundation and the Oregon Pilots Association volunteered to handle maintenance at the Silver Creek Airstrip, saving it from closure.
An easier way to get your WINGS
Just introduced is EZ-WINGS, a web app that makes it easy for CFIs and DPEs to give pilots the credit they deserve in the FAA WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program.
Helicopters give thousands an aerial view of AirVenture
Three helicopters buzz above EAA AirVenture all day, every day, of the show, giving AirVenture visitors a birds-eye view of the grounds.

Ever wonder what the tower at Oshkosh is like during the week of the show? Check out Fred Johnsen’s video, which chronicles the bustling radio communications as FAA controllers talk with pilots and each other to safely move huge numbers of airplanes through the airspace around Oshkosh. The familiar call from controllers to pilots: “Rock your wings” is an Oshkosh staple, allowing controllers to positively identify aircraft they are communicating with.
The Stearman as art
Aviation photographer Craig Rembold was on hand at the 2022 Allen Airways Flying Museum’s 2022 Stearman Fly-In and was able to capture some stunning photos of a variety of squaretailed Stearmans.
If you invite them, they will come
If you invite your community to visit your airport, they will come to enjoy pancakes, watch planes land and takeoff, and help raise money for aviation scholarships.
