First flight ends in crash
The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed during the landing resulting in an inadvertent aerodynamic stall and hard landing.
Picture of the Day: Air attack grounded
Robert Russell submitted this photo and note: “A pair of Canadair CL215T fire attack Air Tankers sit on the tarmac at Reno-Stead Airport (KRTS) in Nevada. The tankers operated by Bridger Air Tanker out of Montana, were aiding the fire fight on the recent Davis fire in Reno, Nevada. On this day all attack aircraft were grounded due to unprecedented severe winds and turbulence over the fire.”
Mother Nature always wins
There are remedies for virtually all the obstacles we are likely to encounter in flight and in life. The real variable is whether we will take the precautions necessary to be safe or not. Too many of us play fast and loose with the risks. The resulting accidents present general aviation in a poor light to those who stand on the outside looking in. They see us as dangerous and, frankly, some of us are.

Unicorn Aviation, a Swiss-French company, has introduced a redundant, flex-fuel injection system for Rotax engines.
Test flight ends in crash
The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack in the traffic pattern, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and loss of airplane control at too low of an altitude to recover. Contributing to the accident was the partial loss of engine power due to improper management of the fuel system.
Picture of the Day: Mountain fishing
Ron Bailey submitted this photo and note: “Evening fishing on a high mountain lake courtesy the Keller Super Cub.”
