Les Smith submitted this photo and note: “Friends of Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland entered this portrayal of KFDK in an event called Sailing Through The Winter Solstice. It begins in November, when a number of boats, transformed through the creative minds of many Frederick friends, set sail on Carroll Creek. The fleet is 26 boats that are decorated in a variety of themes and lit up from dusk till dawn. It’s not just fun, it’s for a purpose. By voting for your favorite boat, organizations are raising awareness and money for causes local to the Frederick community. All proceeds raised during go to each boat’s designated charity and Color On The Creek. The event runs from mid-November through the second Saturday in March, but voting continues.”
