New runway opens at 21D

Runway 14-32, which opened to traffic July 20, 2022, is 650 feet longer than the previous runway, which will be converted to a taxiway in the final phase of the Lake Elmo Airport modernization project, airport officials said.

After a hard landing ripped off the landing gear, an upset co-pilot “got up from his seat, removed his headset, apologized, and departed the airplane via the aft ramp door,” according to the preliminary report from the NTSB.

Autopilot refuses to disengage
