One Pilot’s View: Medical mess

When the day comes that I should not fly any longer for medical reasons, I will tell my personal physician and quit flying. The FAA will play no part in my decision.

Fatal helicopter accidents down 20% in 2020

Preliminary data shows 94 total U.S. helicopter accidents in 2020 compared to 121 accidents the year before. There also were 19 fatal accidents in 2020 compared to 24 fatal accidents in 2019.

Aerospace startup introduces hybrid generator for electric-powered flight

The LaunchPoint HPS400 is a 40kW generator with the capacity to power large drones and flying vehicle missions that require extended ranges of flight, according to officials with the company, which has also received a $1.25 million grant from the Department of Defense to develop hybrid-electric flight technology for flying cars.

Distracted pilot hits hangar

The pilot’s distraction during the engine warm-up, which resulted in the airplane’s collision with a hangar. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s failure to set the brakes.

The plane is hooked up to a heater in the engine cowling and battery minder. The airport does not support GA privately owned hangars and does not plow the taxiway to private hangars, so we must put our planes in storage for the winter. Even if you are equipped with skis, you are not allowed off the runways.”

FAA expands Weather Camera Program to Hawaii

The FAA will install 23 camera facilities throughout the Hawaiian islands. The first, on the island of Kauai, are expected to be operational in mid-2021.
