During the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, which began July 25 and runs through July 31, more than 17,000 planes will fly into Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Wisconsin. Photographer Geremy Kornreich captured just a few of those planes at the beginning of the week.

Ever wonder what the tower at Oshkosh is like during the week of the show? Check out Fred Johnsen’s video, which chronicles the bustling radio communications as FAA controllers talk with pilots and each other to safely move huge numbers of airplanes through the airspace around Oshkosh. The familiar call from controllers to pilots: “Rock your wings” is an Oshkosh staple, allowing controllers to positively identify aircraft they are communicating with.
Tom Poberezny flies west
Former Experimental Aircraft Association President Tom Poberezny died July 25, 2022, the opening day of the 69th annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. He was 75.
