OSHKOSH — At this week’s AirVenture, Jeppesen unveiled new features for Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR on iPad. Enhanced capabilities include data-driven auto zooming for real-time accuracy and software improvements to drive flight efficiency.
Pilots Chris Beger and Kevin Kochersberger have been named the recipients of the 2014 Jeppesen Give-Away through Think Global Flight.
The two are eligible to choose from one of two Jeppesen training packages valued at approximately $500-$900.
Jeppesen’s generous support helped fuel the excitement created as the Think Global Flight Crew travels the globe promoting education and inspiring students, according to Capt. Judy Rice.
The project has succeeded in generating more than $900,000 toward the $1 million needed to accomplish the mission, she added.
More than 20,000 students and teachers are participating across the globe, in 25 countries and 31 U.S. states.
Beger shared, “Science, Technology, Engineering, Math — the big four. The world is truly becoming a smaller place and to improve our lives and environment we must become more educated and embrace new ideas and technologies with the same fearless ambitions as our ancestors. It’s really simple. Education promotes openness and freedom. The world needs this.”
Kochersberger added, “Having been selected as the pilot for the Centennial of Flight celebration on Dec 17, 2003, and having logged time in Wright gliders and powered machines, I am aware of the impact that big aviation events like Think Global Flight can have on motivating youth to achieve high goals. Today, as a professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech, I see the benefit of starting that spark of technical interest at a young age, and I applaud Think Global Flight and Jeppesen for reaching around the world to unleash that potential today.”
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Jeppesen have entered into a new partnership that includes support and participation in AOPA Foundation Air Safety Institute seminars, the 2014 regional AOPA Fly-Ins and the association’s 75th Anniversary “Homecoming” Fly-In at its Frederick Md., headquarters.
Eclipse Aerospace has partnered with Jeppesen to offer a web-based delivery system for E-Chart and navigation subscription data updates.
Jeppesen recently introduced new features and expanded European coverage areas for Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR on iPad. New app capabilities include expanded VFR enroute data for European countries, graphical NOTAM and temporary flight restriction (TFR) updates and a split data download capability to increase efficiency for private pilots.
Jeppesen has teamed with Peters Software, a provider of training and test preparation software programs for EASA private and commercial pilot license preparation, to provide private pilot training courseware and materials in Europe.
Jeppesen is sponsoring a free educational webinar series for improving pilot awareness and navigational skills. The Chart Clinic Confidential series of interactive presentations is aimed at increasing general aviation pilot knowledge related to working with aviation navigation information and charts.
