William P. Heitman’s flight-training book, “Flying and Learning: Basics for Every Pilot” was included in a time capsule that was sealed on April 13 in Kitty Hawk, N.C. The time capsule is scheduled to be opened on the 200th anniversary of the Wright brothers first flight in 2103.
Since its release in late 1997, the book has been the only text on learning how to fly available at the Wright Brothers’ National Memorial. It is “officially approved” by the U.S. National Park Service.
A lifelong North Carolina native, Heitman has been a flight instructor since 1990. His latest book is “Music’s Broken Wings: Fifty Years of Aviation Accidents in the Music Industry.”
The First Flight bicentennial time capsule was organized by Icarus International and First Flight Rotary.
