While misfueling accidents are relatively infrequent today, they still account for a troubling number of serious, reportable accidents each year. Other misfueling incidents go unreported due to pilots’ fears of negative regulatory or insurance consequences.
To address the industry-wide misfueling issue, Air BP will launch a safety campaign at EAA AirVenture 2005 in Oshkosh.
The safety initiative’s objective is to virtually eliminate industry misfueling of general aviation aircraft through a program of awareness, education and engineered solutions targeting pilots, flight instructors and FBO personnel.
The company also will have replacement wing decals to designate correct fuel grade and a demonstrator of the new-design, selective, fuel tank fill neck which physically prevents misfuelings on hand at Oshkosh.
