BedeCorp, LLC. has introduced a new version of its BD-4 aircraft kit design, the BD-4C.
Improvements made on the preceding BD-4B include a larger cabin and new wing design, according to Jim Bede. The BD-4C cabin is 45 inches wide and 14 inches longer than the BD-4B, allowing for larger engines of up to 300 hp, as well as some automotive engine conversions. In addition, the BD-4C integrates a new rivetless all metal wing design.
The original BD-4 is built as either a two- or four-place, tricycle or tailwheel, all-metal aircraft and accommodates 108 hp to 200 hp Lycoming engines. A 200 hp, four-place BD-4 has a gross weight of 2,400 lbs., with a cruising speed of 192 mph, 900 mile range, and a max rate of climb of 1,700 fpm. Flaps down stall speed is 61 mph.
