The Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives is taking applications for a one-day class about aviation as a career and how pilots get certified, said an April 29 report from WXVT-TV in Opelousas, Louisiana. The clinic, co-sponsored by the St. Landry Parish Airport, is for young people aged 12 to 17. It is scheduled for May 16.
The “Do You Believe You Can Fly Aviation Clinic” will be held at Ahart Airfield in Opelousas. It will include a close look at a small plane in a hanger, a chance to talk to the pilot, and a chance to try a flight simulator provided by the state Department of Transportation and Development.
The center’s LaVonya Malveaux said it will be the third clinic in three years, and the response has always been overwhelming.
