The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Air Safety Institute (ASI) has released an early analysis video examining the Nov. 1, 2026, crash of a Learjet 60 in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The twinjet, N722BD, was en route from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when it crashed near West Palm Beach, claiming nine lives.
Preliminary flight-tracking and weather data indicate areas of significant precipitation and convective activity along the route. Air traffic control recordings show the crew reported light clear icing and moderate turbulence, requested a higher altitude after encountering precipitation, and subsequently broadcast a Mayday call as the aircraft entered a rapid descent.
“There’s evidence of significant weather along the flight’s route, but we don’t yet know what role it played in this accident,” said ASI Senior Vice President Mike Ginter. “The NTSB will examine the weather conditions, aircraft performance and operating limitations, aircraft systems, and crew actions to determine what happened.”
AOPA officials noted that Early Analysis videos review initial data and highlight safety lessons to assist general aviation pilots while the NTSB investigates the probable cause.
