Extra 500 introduced in Australia

By Janice Wood · December 12, 2010 ·

Extra Aircraft has appointed Extra Aviation Australasia as the exclusive distributor of the Extra 500 Spirit for the Asia Pacific Rim. Based at Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport in Queensland, Extra Aviation Australasia will introduce the first certified, carbon fiber turboprop to the Australian market and support the aircraft with a service center network in each major capital city of Australia, according to company officials.

The Extra 500 Spirit, powered by a Rolls Royce turboprop, is a six-seat pressurized aircraft designed for business travel.

“The use of carbon fiber has resulted in a lighter airframe and larger cabin for the Extra 500 Spirit than its competitors. The size and weight advantage facilitates use of the reliable 450 horsepower Rolls Royce engine,” said Ken Keith, owner and CEO of Extra Aircraft.

Moishe Gordon of Extra Aviation Australasia adds, “The 1,600 nautical mile range of the Extra 500 Spirit allows the necessary cross country travel in Australia. With a fuel burn of 75 liters per hour, trips such as Melbourne to Perth or Brisbane to Darwin are possible and affordable.”

The Extra 500 Spirit is the first certified aircraft to feature Avidyne’s state of the art Entegra II R9 avionics system with a Flight Management System. The system includes worldwide satellite weather, active traffic display, infrared forward vision, lightening detection and charts.

Demonstrator aircraft will arrive in Australia during the second quarter of 2011. For more information: Extra500.asia or ExtraAircraft.com
