Picture of the day: Betty Grable and the Spartan

By General Aviation News Staff · August 28, 2016 ·

In a story by Tom Snow on the largest-ever gathering of Spartan Model 7W Executives at AirVenture 2016 to  celebrate the type’s 80th anniversary, Spartan Executives shine at Oshkosh, there was a photo of a 1940s re-enactor exiting one of the airplanes.

What we just found out from Jim Savage, who coordinated the gathering, is that he persuaded the young woman to pose for that picture after showing her a photo of Betty Grable from 1941 in the same pose on the wing of that same Spartan.

Thanks for letting us know the rest of the story Jim!

Jim added that the woman wielding the camera in the shot is the young re-enactor’s mother.
