Eric Dumigan, a well-known aviation photographer who has contributed to General Aviation News, passed away suddenly in September 2021.
Eric’s work graced more than one General Aviation News cover. He also was a frequent contributor to Picture of the Day, including today’s picture.
Eric, who had a reputation for being one of Canada’s best aviation photographers, was well known for his warbird and general aviation aircraft photography.

To honor Eric, Skies Magazine has opened a new category in its annual photo contest, called the Eric Dumigan Wings of Warbirds Award. The new award will go to the photographer who has submitted an outstanding image of a warbird aircraft.
The Skies annual photo contest opens each year in late August, and runs through September.
“Eric was known for being legendary with a camera, especially within aviation circles in Southern Ontario,” said Skies Publisher Mike Reyno. “He was the very first photographer that I reached out to as we were preparing to launch Skies 10 years ago.”

Thank you, Eric, for a beautiful legacy of photos and friendship!
Thank you for the tribute to Eric Dumigan. His website, http://www.airic.ca, is an outstanding legacy of iconic aviation images by the renowned photo journalist. Eric was quite active until his passing. For example, his website has spectacular photos of the Buffalo, NY waterfront air show in June. It was typical of Eric’s creativity and drive that he took the photos of the show from a vantage point in Fort Erie on the Canadian side of the border. His career spanned 30 years and he was a good friend to many in the aviation community. Eric will be greatly missed.
