Tillamook Air Museum to Reopen Oct. 29

The Tillamook Air Museum in Oregon will reopen Oct. 29, 2026, following the sale of the museum’s historic hangar and exhibits to the non-profit Vintage Aviation Museum for $1.

According to officials with the Port of Tillamook Bay, the agreement includes the sale of Hangar B for $1, along with a long-term ground lease. The agreement also includes the transfer of the museum’s exhibits and gift shop merchandise to the Vintage Aviation Museum.

Based in Utah and founded by a Tillamook native, the Vintage Aviation Museum will move some of its exhibits to the Oregon site.

The museum has been closed since December 2025 when a storm damaged the historic World War II Hangar B that was its home. The Port of Tillamook Bay Commission decided it would cost too much to repair the roof, leading to the sale of the museum and its exhibits to the Vintage Air Museum.

On Oct. 9, about 80 people showed up at a work party at the museum to prepare for its reopening, moving airplanes, cleaning exhibits, and more. On top of that, the Friends of the Tillamook Air Museum (FOTAM) donated $50,000 to the Vintage Aviation Museum to help repair the hangar’s storm-damaged roof.

“Since December’s storm, an incredible amount of work has taken place behind the scenes, and we are moving quickly to get the museum ready to once again welcome visitors through the doors of Hangar B,” Vintage Air Museum officials said on the museum’s Facebook page.

Museum officials added that their first priority has been “to restore the museum experience our visitors knew before the storm, returning aircraft, exhibits and collections to the museum and preparing Hangar B for reopening.”

“At the same time, we are already looking ahead, with plans to continue improving exhibits, adding more to see, and building on what makes the Tillamook Air Museum such a special place,” they continued.

The museum will reopen at 10 a.m. Oct 29. If you are planning to visit the museum any time soon, museum officials suggest dressing accordingly, as it is cold in the hangar.
