Fun shout-out from BoldMethod

By Ben Sclair · July 18, 2014 ·

BoldMethod offers online training courses and a daily aviation blog that helps all pilots learn to fly and keep skills sharp. Their blog is informative and often quite entertaining. But Friday’s blog post, titled “6 Things You Can Do With General Aviation News” made us blush a little. Item #2 – and associated graphic – is worth the price of admission. Thanks guys.

How to create a fan

By Jamie Beckett · July 16, 2014 ·

The quest for the World Cup has come to an end. Germany took home the title after working their way up through the ranks, win by win. In the end they took out Argentina in a 1–0 contest that left billions of people around the world glued to their television sets. Incidentally, this column doesn’t […]

Is this the new GA?

By Dan Johnson · July 14, 2014 ·

The word “legacy” is often used to refer to products that are dominant today but threatened by disruptive influences. Legacy airlines, for example, are today’s largest carriers but ones burdened with aircraft bought earlier and with labor contracts negotiated years ago. Legacy connotes power, but also vulnerability. The same logic can be applied to general […]

Unmanned Aircraft Systems hold tremendous potential

By General Aviation News Staff · July 13, 2014 ·

By MICHAEL TOSCANO From Amazon to Google to Domino’s Pizza, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have been drawing significant attention in recent months.  Amazon plans to launch a “Prime Air” delivery system, while Google aims to use UAS to bring internet to the developing world. Before we know it, even your pizza may be delivered by UAS. […]

Runway-side Chalet Suzanne closing after 83 Years

By Drew Steketee · July 9, 2014 ·

Chalet Suzanne Restaurant and Inn in Lake Wales, Florida, a paradigm of class and cuisine among airplane-accessible destinations, will be closing its doors Aug. 4. Looking for a buyer, third-generation owner Eric Hinshaw and wife Dee say it can be yours. Otherwise, they plan a silent auction of its unique contents. Hinshaw’s grandmother Bertha opened the […]

Video: Way too close

By Ben Sclair · July 9, 2014 ·

While not general aviation, this video shows in moving pictures a near collision as a result of a runway incursion.

Respectfully yours

Now and then I’ll receive a piece of mail that contains a dollar bill. These tend to be from companies that want information from me. You probably get similar mailers arriving at your home or office. Most of us do. What I find intriguing about these dollars in the mail is that I cannot recall […]

They reached for the stars

By Drew Steketee · July 7, 2014 ·

The pride of my small aviation art and poster collection is a glimpse into one of GA’s most daring – and star-crossed – new products. It’s time to dig out my prize Starship poster and look back on troubled times at Beech, now that Textron has taken ownership. At least in external appearance, placing Beech […]

Banding together to grow GA’s brand

By General Aviation News Staff · July 3, 2014 ·

By CARMINE MOWBRAY Montana has more cows than people, and in cattle country, unbranded calves are called “mavericks.” In people terms, we think of a maverick as being a loner, without ties or loyalties. And alone, a person — no matter how passionate — can only accomplish so much. Partnerships that match folks with common […]
