Erie Airport Economic Development Council formed

By Janice Wood · May 5, 2009 ·

group of Erie, Colorado community leaders and area businesses have formed the Erie Airport Economic Development Council for the purpose of “maximizing the value of the Erie Municipal Airport and its economic impact for the benefit of the Town of Erie and its citizens,” said the group’s May 5 news release.

“We have a great asset in an airport that contributes more than $12 million to the local economy, and we want to build awareness about it and expand its impact,” said Scott deLuise, chairman. “With industry-leading companies like Rocky Mountain Propeller, Vector Air, Aero Systems and others already thriving at the airport, we know that other companies can locate here and succeed, as well, creating high-paying jobs for local residents, along with tax revenue.”

The EAEDC’s mission is to maximize the value of the Erie Municipal Airport for Erie taxpayers and regional users. The organization’s vision is “to promote the creation of high-paying aviation-related jobs and real estate and sales tax revenues for the Town of Erie, both on and adjacent to the airport proper,” the announcement said.

The EAEDC plans to promote Erie Municipal Airport’s value to prospective companies nationwide. The airport offers “a unique combination of advantages, with proximity to Denver and Boulder, a variety of amenities, full airport services and a beautiful climate with more than 340 days of sunshine a year,” the group pointed out.

The organization has started relationships with other individuals and organizations interested in economic and airport development, including Upstate Colorado, the Town of Erie and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. EAEDC has set up an initial web presence at www.eaedc.com, and will be developing a complete site, including information, links and resources, in the coming weeks.
