Sporty’s E6B iPhone App is now available for more mobile devices, including Apple’s iPad and Google’s Android devices.
The App includes all the features of Sporty’s Electronic E6B Flight Computer, but is optimized for cell phones and tablets. It takes advantage of each device’s touch-screen interface to make calculations fast and easy, according to Sporty’s officials.
“This is an app that every pilot can use,” says Sporty’s Vice President John Zimmerman. “New pilots benefit by being able to quickly compute navigational, weight and balance or fuel problems, while more experienced pilots will enjoy features such as top of descent, specific range and required rate of climb.”
In addition to being available for new platforms, Sporty’s has also made a number of updates to the E6B App:
- Includes 4 new conversions—pounds to gallons and gallons to pounds for both Jet A and Avgas
- Upgraded visuals for the iPhone 4’s Retina Display
- New wind correction angle calculation
- Pop-up timer notification—even when the app is closed
The timer can be set to count up or down, so it works for timing approaches, holds or switching fuel tanks. There is also a clock function that shows Home, Local and Zulu time. Sporty’s E6B App for iPhone and iPad is a universal app that works on both devices. It is available for $9.99 in the iTunes App Store. Sporty’s E6B App for Android is available for $4.99 in the Android Market.
