A new app designed to help student pilots beat “mic fright” has been released.
With ATCpal, student pilots make real radio calls out loud to an AI controller, which grades phraseology against the FAA standard.
“The grade isn’t AI guessing,” company officials say. “It’s a deterministic, exact check against a fixed answer key from the FAA AIM, AC 90-66, and the Pilot/Controller Glossary.”
Students can train in FAA or ICAO phraseology, company officials add.
The app includes a live AI controller, cross-country flights, a checkride exam, and more than 30 written guides. Flight schools get a classroom dashboard, company officials add.
Student pilots can try the app for free. Subscriptions are $9.99 a month if the yearly plan is chosen or $12.99 for month to month. For student pilots invited by a school to use the app, it is $6.99 a month for the yearly plan or $9.99 on a monthly basis. Flight schools can use the app for free, but must be approved by the developer.
