Applications and nominations are now being accepted for next year’s General Aviation Awards, including the Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year, the Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year, and the FAA Safety Team Representative of the Year.
The program, a cooperative effort between the aviation industry and the FAA, seeks to recognize individuals for their professionalism and dedication to general aviation.
Community involvement in the awards program has decreased recently, resulting in fewer nominations and applications, according to officials with the General Aviation Awards Board of Directors. They encourage flight schools, aviation organizations, universities, Flight Standards District Offices (FSDO), and others to nominate fellow aviators or submit applications.
“In nearly every aviation community, there are aviators and mechanics who deserve recognition for their efforts to improve and secure general aviation,” officials added.
Deadline for submissions is Nov. 30, 2026.
The selection process begins following the Nov. 30 deadline at the FSDOs, where honorees are chosen at the district level. These winners then advance to the national level, where a panel of judges, made up of industry professionals and past honorees, selects this year’s national honorees.
In addition to national recognition, winners present a live broadcast in which they share their knowledge and expertise, and are awarded a trip to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, a commemorative plaque, and numerous gifts from industry sponsors.
