Aero Tech Aviation Design (ATAD), a manufacturer of FAA PMA-approved aircraft parts and a provider of engineering, certification, and DER services, has introduced new FAA PMA-approved Composite Spinner Assemblies for Cessna 172 aircraft.
The new spinner was developed to address common durability challenges experienced with traditional aluminum spinner assemblies, according to company officials, who note many owners have reported cracking issues in OEM aluminum spinner assemblies and bulkheads. These cracks often result in repeated inspections, repairs, or replacement costs that contribute to increased aircraft downtime and maintenance expenses, they noted.
Company officials explain that similar to ATAD’s FAA-PMA approved Piper and Cessna 182 Spinners, the Cessna 172 spinner assemblies utilize:
- High-strength carbon fiber bulkheads
- A fiberglass spinner dome
- Lightweight composite construction
- Enhanced resistance to environmental exposure.
Hundreds of ATAD composite spinner assemblies have been installed across various aircraft platforms and continue to operate in service with no reported service difficulties, according to company officials. One fleet operator reports that one of the composite spinner assemblies has accumulated approximately 8,000 flight hours in service.
