On this occasion, more than 130 planes and hundreds of people came to enjoy coffee and donuts in the company of planes. One of these visitors was Kelly Mahon, who showed off his beautiful 1934 Monocoupe 90.”
Continental Jet-A piston engines achieve milestones, including increased TBR
Continental reports two milestones for its Jet-A piston engine series: The jet-fuel burning piston engine family has accumulated more than 10 million flight hours, while the CD-170 engine has received a Time Between Replacement (TBR) extension from 1,200 to 1,800 hours from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Free ForeFlight workshops take off May 1
The 90-minute interactive workshops, which will held on the first Monday of the month, will offer hands-on training on using ForeFlight for flight planning, weather, and in-flight navigation.

Greg Lutz, who has been a pilot for 40 years, has launched Aviation Cross Country Weather (AVXCWX), a free website created to facilitate cross-country flight planning around the weather.

Noise abatement recommendations approved at KAPF
The Part 150 Noise Study, which began in 2019 and involved more than 100 public meetings and presentations, resulted in nearly 100 initial recommendations from the community, according to airport officials.

During the opening session of the 66th annual Aircraft Electronics Association International Convention & Trade Show on April 24, 2023, the FAA presented the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award to Ric Peri, the association’s vice president of government and industry affairs.
Garmin introduces PlaneSync
Garmin has introduced PlaneSync, an aircraft management system that automatically updates avionics databases, logs flight and engine data, and allows aircraft owners to remotely check fuel and systems status via the Garmin Pilot app.

Jay Wilkes submitted this photo and note: “This is a photo of my father Jack Wilkes and me taking a flight in a Thorp T-211 he bought at SUN ‘n FUN back in 2007. He had just turned 80 and was looking for a smaller plane to keep him flying. You can tell by his big smile this was a good day. He had a hangar and house at Freedom Field (AL41) in Slocomb, Alabama. Unfortunately he sold it not long after this was taken. He flew west in May 2014. We used to fly to air shows together, including EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and SUN ‘n FUN. I miss flying with him.”
