Robert Coverdill submitted this photo and note: “A frontal system passed through central Illinois last night and I flew towards the back side of it on a short flight. While getting ready to put the plane away I noticed the beautiful scene of storm clouds being splashed by the setting sun, and the reflection of the plane in the water puddle. It seemed photo worthy! This is a 1968 Cherokee Arrow.”
Photo of the Day
Picture of the Day: A rustic FBO
Ted Luebbers sent in this photo with a note: “Rustic FBO at the Greenville Municipal Airport (3B1) in Maine. They do have a courtesy car here.”
Picture of the Day: Sunrise flight
Dana Vanderark submitted this photo and note: “A great day for flying at Fallon Municipal Airport in Nevada. Lots of student pilots and seasoned pilots showed up to fly while there was a break in the smoke.”
Picture of the Day: Instructing from the back seat
Richard Wyeroski submitted this photo and note: “Flight training from the back seat of a 1947 Aeronca 7AC. This is what the instructor sees from the back seat teaching a new student in his new airplane. It’s tough to see any instruments and you cannot see too well on takeoff and landing. That’s how one sets power by ear and judges altitude by eye.”
Picture of the Day: Hanging out with the clouds
Steve Sundstrom submitted this photo and note: “Great day to hang out with the clouds.😎”
Picture of the Day: Formation flight dedication
John Carroll submitted this photo and note: “This photo was taken by Laura Hughes, from the backseat of an L-19 flown by her husband, Mike. I was flying wing in my Sonex. We were part of a much larger group of airplanes that were there to dedicate a new floating bandstand at Alton Bay, N.H. This is the same site of the wintertime ice runway in Alton Bay. Our large group of aircraft took off from the Laconia Municipal Airport (KLCI), formed up, and made several passes over the water and near the town ceremony.”
Picture of the Day: Little did we know…
Larry Portouw submitted this photo and note: “This is sunrise Jan. 1, 2020, taken by my wife, Charlotte, from our 1969 Mooney M-20C, at 11,500 feet in the vicinity of Tombstone, Arizona, and the Dragoon Mountains looking out into New Mexico and beyond. The Chiricahua Mountains are visible on the left side of the frame. The goal was to make it back down to home plate at Benson Municipal Airport (E95) and watch a second sunrise. We didn’t quite make it as it came up again in the base to final turn to Runway 10 at E95. I’ve done this before in a Tri-Pacer and it is great fun and a good excuse to practice emergency descents. The year started with this and lots of promise. Little did we know….”
Picture of the Day: Autumn sunset
Frederic Smet submitted this photo and note: “Ready for an IFR flight on a wet autumn night in my Cirrus SR20-G3 out of Ostend, Belgium, to our home base in Antwerp, Belgium. Pretty quiet on this ramp! Enjoying the beautiful sunset though, with some dew already forming on the airplane’s surfaces.
Picture of the Day: Flying on a perfect day
Bill Rodway submitted this photo and note: “With the new runway finished and inviting, a trip to the highest airport in the USA (9,934 feet) seemed inevitable. Gas at Lake County Airport (KLXV) in Leadville, Colorado, was inexpensive, and I made sure to get my ‘Certificate of Navigation’ from manager Brett Cottrell. Borrow the crew car and grab lunch at High Mountain Pies or the Golden Burro Cafe.”
