Float flying lesson ends in serious injuries for two

The pilot receiving instruction’s failure to maintain airspeed during a turn, which resulted in an exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack and a subsequent aerodynamic stall. Contributing to the accident was the flight instructor’s failure to take remedial action in a timely manner.

Preflight planning gets safety boost with FAA weather cams

The FAA provides more than 600 camera sites throughout the United States with 230 FAA sites in Alaska. Another estimated 360 cameras operate in North America as third-party systems, such as those installed by NAVCanada and the states of Colorado and Montana. The camera images are updated every 10 minutes to give pilots a view of the latest weather.

The woes of winter

Regardless of what you think constitutes uncomfortably cold, winter brings risks to us all. That’s true when driving over a combination of packed snow and ice to an intersection near the bottom of a downhill grade, and it’s true when we climb into an airplane to fly through that thick, clear winter air.
