By NASA · May 5, 2022 ·

This is the second near mid-air collision I’ve experienced at this facility within the last three weeks. In the other incident, the controller also admitted 100% fault due to a loss of situational awareness on the east side of the airport.

A love letter to the Stearman

By General Aviation News Staff · May 4, 2022 ·

Yes, from every angle that you view the Stearman, it has clean lines. Certainly, it fits the adage that if a plane looks right it’ll fly right. However, its physical contours and flying attributes are just one side of the larger equation that accounts for what I call the Stearman phenomenon — the power of enchantment that causes this biplane to be a fitting symbol of the flying brotherhood.

Picture of the Day: Short final into St. Barths

By General Aviation News Staff · May 3, 2022 ·

Chris Unrau submitted this photo and note: “I recently had the privilege of fulfilling a dream come true — I earned my certification to land in St. Barths in my Cessna T210N, C-GPLS. The training consists of two hours of ground instruction followed by two training flights with 10 landings required on Runway 10, missed approaches to both runways, and a landing on Runway 28. It was a surreal experience to do this training into such an iconic airport. It’s a feast for all the aviation senses whether you’re the captain, the passenger, or spotting from the ground.”

A bit of restraint goes a long way

By Jamie Beckett · May 3, 2022 ·

This one’s all about improving the success rate of the 51% of the population we’ve done such an exceptional job of excluding from the cockpit for so long. Increasing the number of women in aviation is a worthy goal in my estimation.
