The plan was to meet up with several other SeaReys and float planes for some $100 seafood at Galene’s on Conesus Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes. We hadn’t been 10 minutes in the air when Kevin said he was going to get some gas. We dove (literally) down to land on this postage stamp piece of grass behind a Kwik Fill gas station in Strykersville and proceeded to join the cars and fill ‘er up. You can only imagine the stares from the non-flying vehicles.”

I checked my training books and couldn’t find anything, and when I checked in with Uncle Google, all I got was stuff about car engines stalling when decelerating. I asked my flight instructor and he said, “I don’t know, but I know who would know…”

I no sooner started moving when the plane jerked to the right. We got out and saw that someone had parked an SUV car between the hangar and the taxiway with the rear hatch door up.

One beautiful day in the summer of 2022 we met up at Dean Memorial Airport (5B9) in Haverhill, New Hampshire, to have a picnic lunch. My father has been in aviation my entire life and in 2008 he took on the additional role of my flight instructor. Now since we live in different states, we have found this is a fun way to meet up, visit, and see new sites. As we were both preparing to depart to return to our respective home bases, my wife took this picture of the two planes sitting together.”
Putting Humpty Dumpty back together again
Nicknamed “Humpty Dumpty,” a 1964 Cessna 150 is in the midst of being put back together again by the members of EAA Chapter 534 in Leesburg, Florida. Once the work is complete, the donated plane will become the workhorse of the chapter’s new flying club.
