Air Zoo to hold Model Aircraft Day

By Janice Wood · April 28, 2010 ·

The Kalamazoo Air Zoo in Michigan has slated Model Aircraft Day on May 1. During Model Aircraft Day, guests will learn all about radio control and line control aircraft, and they’ll get the chance to experience flight, firsthand.

Guests will have the chance to fly line control aircraft during the West Michigan Smoke Rings’ free training flights, weather permitting. They’ll also have the opportunity to command radio control aircraft through flight simulators, courtesy of Kent Radio Aero Modelers and the West Michigan Thunderbirds.

During the event, kids will be able to craft and take home their very own simple flying machines, thanks to the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

In addition to a 1/12th scale model of the SR-71 Blackbird, various radio control aircraft will also be on display throughout the Air Zoo.
