First Look: Vintage Cub Unveiled After Full Restoration

By General Aviation News Staff · October 11, 2026 · Leave a Comment

Will Vergonet, a talented photographer as well as an aviation mechanic, captured a moment that many vintage aircraft owners can relate to: The first time seeing their newly restored airplane.

He took these photos as Gary Allen saw his revived 1946 J-3 Cub for the first time at Bipe Inc. at Western Carolina Regional Airport (KRHP) in Andrews, North Carolina.

Adam Sanner, Gary, and Jerry Stadtmiller, owner of Bipe Inc.

The first flight.

Will reports that after Gary’s first flight he returned to KRHP, where as soon as the wheel pants are completed, the folks at Bipe Inc. will disassemble the Cub and ship it to Gary in Washington.

“He flew his Stearman from here to home when it was completed,” Will adds. “This is the second restoration we have done for him.”
