Joby Aviation launched a weeklong series of piloted electric air taxi flights across Florida on Oct. 30, 2026, traveling between Tampa, Orlando, and the Space Coast, according to company officials.
The flights mark the state’s first operations conducted under the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), an initiative designed to accelerate the safe entry of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft into the national airspace system. Operating in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the flight demonstrations will help evaluate routes for the state’s proposed Aerial Highway Network.
The campaign began with a point-to-point flight across Tampa Bay from Albert Whitted Airport (KSPG) in St. Petersburg to Tampa International Airport (KTPA), retracing the path of the world’s first scheduled commercial airline flight from 1914. Additional demonstrations include operations at Orlando International Airport (KMCO) utilizing a dedicated vertiport landing site near Terminal C, followed by flights at the Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility.
“From Tampa Bay to Orlando and the Space Coast, we’re giving Floridians a glimpse of a future where quiet, all-electric aircraft make it easier and faster to connect the places people live, work and visit,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation.
“Each flight provides crucial data and lessons learned that will help establish safety standards for everyday operations,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford.
Operational data gathered during the week will focus on airport integration, acoustics, and vertiport procedures as Joby continues working toward FAA type certification.
