New weather observation system debuts in Alaska
A team of former FAA officials have created the Montis Weather Observation System (MWOS), which they describe as a “tool that goes beyond mere weather observations, offering a multifaceted approach to enhance situational awareness and response capabilities. It provides 360° camera images, an extensive array of weather sensor data, ADS-B tracking data, and a suite of analytics.”
Poor planning, inadequate training cited as main reasons for loss of control accidents
The study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Air Transportation, “is the first rigorous survey to ask surviving pilots why they experienced inflight loss of control and document the human factors that led to the incidents,” university officials said, adding nearly 200 pilots completed the survey.
