Sun ‘n Fun special on Texas Sport

American Legend Aircraft Company is offering a $2,500 discount on its Texas Sport amateur-built aircraft kit. The discount is valid for orders placed through the close of Sun ‘n Fun, or April 18.

The Texas Sport aircraft kit comprises four major sections: fuselage, wings, tail, and firewall forward kits. Each kit includes all the components and hardware for complete assembly of that section, company officials said. Customers who purchase all four major sections will receive the $2,500 rebate off the regular price of $39,900. With the rebate applied, base price of the Texas Sport kit is $37,400.

As an amateur-built aircraft, the Texas Sport requires more than 51% of fabrication to be performed by the builder. The Texas Sport kit has been designed to enable the builder to assemble their aircraft using commonly available tools, company officials note. The fuselage section includes a fully welded frame. The wing section includes fully riveted aluminum wing structures requiring only final assembly of components. No welding and no jigs are required to complete the kit.

The Texas Sport builder has a choice of engines and optional equipment, including electrical components, instrumentation, interior, and paint finishes. Additional items to be sourced include a covering kit, engine and propeller, instrumentation and avionics, and can be purchased through American Legend. Optional items on the Texas Sport include choice of lighting, wheels, floats, Emergency Locator Transmitter, and more. American Legend Aircraft Co. also offers a 14- or 21-day KwikBild program to assist builders with the completion of their aircraft in a factory setting.

The Texas Sport design is based on the Legend Cub, and incorporates many features of the J3, PA-11, and PA-18 Piper Cubs. Builders of the Texas Sport kit can certify their aircraft in one of two ways. First, builders can operate their Texas Sport under Sport Pilot rules when certified at a gross weight of 1,320 pounds. Or, the Texas Sport can be certified at 1,600 pounds and flown with a private pilot license.

The Legend Cub will be on display at Sun ‘n Fun in the American Legend booth #MD-10 on the flight line.
