When you take your next vacation, whether you’re going to the beach, the mountains, the desert, or the prairie, consider doing a search for nostalgic aviation opportunities in the area. The odds are good you’ll find something of interest, as I did on Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona.
Record attendance for Girls in Aviation Day
Through events hosted by WAI chapters and corporate members, the number of GIAD participants more than doubled to over 30,000 compared with 16,000 attendees at GIAD 2022, according to WAI officials. The number of countries where events were held grew to 31 countries this year versus 19 countries last year. The number of events also increased to 168 events compared with over 120 last year.

Stearman vs. Super Cub
The course the PT-17 was turning towards appeared to put them on course to pass over the top of me as I departed northbound. I assumed they didn’t see me, so I started a turn roughly 30° to the right and made a radio call that I had the PT-17 in sight and we were no longer a factor for each other.

Vintage Bardahl Special has some new tricks
The 2023 National Championship Air Races attracted a number of vintage racing aircraft to the final event held at storied Reno/Stead Field (KRTS), including the pristine white P-51D Mustang known as the Bardahl Special.
New hangar project takes off at KAEG
The inability to get a hangar at Double Eagle II Airport (KAEG) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, led to the creation of a new company: High Flying Hangars, which will bring the first new commercial development to the airport in more than 25 years.
Indiana university expands aviation maintenance program
Vincennes University has received $4.5 million from the state to double enrollment in its Aviation Maintenance program. It also plans to boost its high school dual credit offerings.
