Swedish aircraft manufacturer Blackwing is expanding into the U.S. market. It has begun accepting orders under the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) framework, according to company officials.
“With the new possibilities created by MOSAIC, Blackwing is now opening sales to the US market,” company officials noted in a recent newsletter.
Orders placed as of September 2026 have an estimated delivery time of 18 months. The U.S. fleet will be equipped with the new AXIS flight display from Garmin, according to company officials.
Despite the U.S. expansion, there are no immediate plans to offer Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) or CS-23 certified aircraft.
“The simple answer is that there is currently no practical regulatory path for us to offer IFR operations with the ultralight aircraft we manufacture and sell today,” company officials added.
Founded in 2011, Blackwing is now producing the third generation of its aircraft, the BW650.
